Backyard foodies

While I was thinking about what I would write for this blog, I was eating some berries from our own garden. This was my insipartion, my favorite foodies from our backyard. So we have three sections in here, fruits, vegies and herbs. (If you move your mouse over the picture, you will see the name of the food)

Let's begin with the fruits. My all time favorite fruits are berries, and we have quite a few. We have strawberries, raspberries and red currants. Sadly, I missed the strawberrieseason because I was on holiday. There will be some more, but most of them are gone, eaten by my father. I hope he liked them and they were very tasty! For the raspberries, I still have to be patient because they come later in the year, but then every time I walk past the raspberriebush, I pick some and have a little snack. And that's someting I find amazing. For the red currants, I'm eating myself red at the moment. Every day I pick some, weather or no weather (like today, so no pictures full of sun, but rainy pictures it will be) and free them from the snails and then eat them as fresh as possible! Alright, with a bit of suger, but it still is delightful and fresh. We also have grapes and cherries, but I don't eat them from the garden. Nobody will eat the cherries honestly, beside the birds picking them from our tree.

Then we have the vegies. We have all kinds of vegies, from giant baby cucumbers, to tomatoes (actually, they are fruits but today I see them as vegies, because so do our supermarkets), to peppers and courgettes. I eat the tomatoes, and we have different ones and in different colours. We have red and yellow, and last year we even had black ones. Or it were black peppers, I can't remember. Anyways, I eat the tomatoes, and they are more tasty then the ones in the supermarket. The peppers will be used in a dinner, I think my father will make something special with it, but we will see. And then we only have the courgettes left. My mom uses them for a lovely courgettesoup, with the recipe of my grandmother! When we don't have courgettes, we get huge ones from my grandpartens, bad sadly this will be the last year because my grandfather is going to stop with his kitchengarden.

And then we stil have the herbs. We have many, and placed on different places around the garden. I don't use them myself, but my parents do. So when they need a herb for a recipe, or make a saus or Garlicbutter themself, they pick the herbs from the garden. I think it is really nice to grow them yourself, they probably are more tasty and give a nice look to your garden. I know we have basil, chive and mint. Mint I like because it smells so nice when you put your hand in it. I believe we have many more, but I just don't know them. Maybe this is a sign I should be more out in the garden and enjoying the outdoors.
