A day in the ditch

Yesterday I visited my uncle, and I had so much fun! First I had to travel by train for one and half an hour. But even before I was at the train station, something went wrong. My bag decided it wanted to break. Luckily, it wasn't to bad but it was annoying. But after that 1,5 hour drive, a big cup of tea and 3 different trains, I arrived. And every time I'm so surprised about the difference in nature. There are so much more meadows filled with livestock and there is so much water!

After we did some grocery shopping and ate lunch, we grabbed one of his many canoes (like 14 or so) and we went canoeing. We decided to take one where we sat in together. And the second thing went wrong! No I did not fell in the water or lost the peddle. No, I broke my little sitting board within the first 10 meters. But luckily I could also sit on the bottom of the canoe and we were good to go!
Even though my uncle hasn't live there his whole life, he knows much about the place. Even the more historical things. Like when we canoed past some stone piles and he told me that those used to be for the farmers who had ground on the pieces of ground surrounded by water. This way the farmers could get their harvest to the trains or other places. It's really interesting to learn those things about other places!

We made a little stop at a windmill, which was very pretty! We just sat down on the side with our feet in the water, which was really nice because the water was so cold. It is strange though, that to every passing boat, big or small, we said hello and on the streets many people don't do that. I like that, it's just kindness we miss on other places.

After chilling a bit when we were back, I decided that I wanted to cool down and go for a swim. So I changed in to my bikini and jumped on a surfboard. Alright, not jumped, I climbed on it (which probably did not look very gracious), and peddled to a more open place. And yes, he also has a surfboard but having some sort of water fun things are pretty much a must have when you have your back garden surrounded with water. So, I went a more open water and lay on the surfboard enjoying the sun for a bit. I tried to safe a snail, but I think he was already dead and I don't know how to give a snail a hart massage. And then I slid of, yet again I don't think it looked very gracious. The water was nice and cold but not too cold. But there are too many plants that tickled my legs, so after I cooled down a bit I climbed back on the board and peddled around a bit more. I decided to go a way I never been (for like 20 meters) and found an old boat and boat loading place. It looked amazing! But I could not really take a picture, because my phone isn't really water resistant so I left that behind.

After this I took a nice shower, to get all the ditch water of my body and then we ordered some pizza. I had a pizza Hawaï, which is with pineapple and ham. And it was so tasty! After this we watched some TV and had a cup of tea and then it was time again to go home. The views I had from the train were so pretty, especially the sunset.

I wish I could go back there very soon and have more fun! Maybe next time, I'll just sleep there for a few days. I hope you liked this blog, please let me know on my twitter (@xsjarlieex) or on my guestbook
